Second run of the three phase model 7
Me testing a Federal Signal Model 7 siren made around WWII with my three phase generator. This siren has a cast iron rotor and a 208-230 10 horse three phase GE motor. It runs beautifully and is the loudest siren I have tested so far at my house. This siren is for sale if anyone is interested and has a Fedelcode style housing to go with it. It weighs about 450-500 pounds.
This was also the first time I powered anything with my recently aquired surplus generator, which has only 108 hours on it. It’s a Libby MEP-003A 10 kw continuous and 15 KW surge, and is powered by a 4 cylinder Onan DJC air cooled diesel. It can produce 208/120 three phase, 120 single phase, and 120/240 single phase. It runs great but still has some gunk in the injectors (notice how one bank of cylinders is getting fuel dumped in it) and the governor kicks in a little slow. Pretty good for a piece of equipment that has sat for over 7 years.

Hmm, that’s a good idea. The fuel can that’s sitting on the generator (temporary tank until I get the original tank acid dipped) has a two types of diesel injector cleaner and some kerosene mixed into it. Never tried seafoam before though.

Good run. Did you ever try SeaFoaming that former government et?
Yep, it has a very …
Yep, it has a very heavy cast iron rotor it has to spin up. Plus this is a 208-230 motor, no 480.
If it was running …
If it was running on normal 3 phase power, and not on a generator, would it still start as slowly as it does now?
Oops I meant 15KW. …
Oops I meant 15KW. 10KW is the continuous duty output, and 15KW is the surge rating.
Good deal.

Yeah, it’s dead too. The motor single phased and burned up. But I have another motor for it.

Very cool! Where did you get that generator and how many volts can it put out?
