How to calculate battery rating for a generator?
Batteries are used to self start Diesel Generators.Batteries are rated in Amphare Hour. How to calculate batteris Amphare Hour rating?
Generally 150AH Batteries are used for DG Sets. The main factor for selection is the starting current of the self starter (DC Series) Motor. The battery should supply this power on multiple attempts too without draining. It could be 12V or 24V System. If 12V you use a single battery of 12V, 150AH. If 24V system, you use 2 Nos. of them, connected in series.

Does a diesel generator consume the same amount of fuel al lesser loads?
These guys are right.
Look at it this way. If you were driving a car on level ground and your tachometer said 2000 RPM on the level ground and suddenly you were to go up a big hill (which is the same thing as an increased load) if you held the gas pedal in the same place you would see the RPM's drop off rapidly as the slope increased. To maintain that 2000 RPM you would have to give it more gas pedal to maintain that 2000 RPM.
That is exactly what a diesel generator does. It has to maintain a certain RPM to give 60 Hz AC current. If you increase the load the RPM would drop and therefore the 60 Hz cycle would also drop and possibly damage some equipment needing a steady sine wave of power. So the generator senses the load increase by way of a solenoid that moves a throttle cable to get the generator up to that preset RPM to maintain that 60 Hz
