PostHeaderIcon I have a Diesel fuel Generator 600KVA, I uesd it 10hrs a day. one litter of Diesel fuel is US $0.8?

So for one litter of diesel fuel, how many KWh of electricity can poduced? I used for 2512pcs 41W of fluorescent Tube.

It varies a lot depending on the generator’s efficiency. Usually 3 to 6 kilowatt hours per liter.

I have a Kubota GL7000 portable diesel generator….. now I’ve followed the recommended maint. schedule on it, new fuel filters, oil filters, oil changes, etc….. I have just under 1,000 hours on it right now, it smokes a little when it’s cold but when it warms up it runs nice and smooth and with no smoke, it seems to me that it’s running really solid and I have no complaints or problems, but I’m curious how long a generator like this (2 years old) should last me?
I use this generator for my business about once or twice a week…. sometimes just for an hour or so and sometimes it’ll run 8 or 10 hours straight

ok so you a caring owner of the kubota gen. well a bit of smoke is ok w/ 1k hrs and you dont say how many times you use it ie you start it up just to ck it or your actualiy putting a load on it with power being draw on the gen. ?? also its important that the oil your using is combatible with the weather and area your using it in trust this 40 w in the rockies aint gonna work and in winter you need a heater in the sump too keep oil warm

PostHeaderIcon Can one covert a 7.2 liter diesel motor into a backup generator? And does it make sense to do?

I bought an old moving truck that I only want for storage. It will be parked on my off grid property. I would like to rig it to run a generator that could charge up a large bank of batteries for when my solar isn’t collecting enough power. I know it can be done but I’m curious first, how to do it, and second, if it’s worth doing? Thank you very much for your input.

The engine in the truck is designed and built to move the truck. There are far cheaper to run and more effective options for direct charging any battery bank. You need a small diesel or possibly a quality OHC petrol engine on gas direct coupled to a suitable alternator, regulator and control system. The engine you are suggesting has the ability to spin up a huge alternator - possibly ten times bigger than needed for your purpose so expect fuel consumption to match.

A fixed speed stationary engine has much different cam and fuelling profiles, and a very accurate engine speed governor fitted to ensure the correct frequency and phasing at all times when the unit is under load. This means that the truck engine will be very unsatisfactory for your proposed alternative use.
