PostHeaderIcon Second run of the three phase model 7

Me testing a Federal Signal Model 7 siren made around WWII with my three phase generator. This siren has a cast iron rotor and a 208-230 10 horse three phase GE motor. It runs beautifully and is the loudest siren I have tested so far at my house. This siren is for sale if anyone is interested and has a Fedelcode style housing to go with it. It weighs about 450-500 pounds.

This was also the first time I powered anything with my recently aquired surplus generator, which has only 108 hours on it. It’s a Libby MEP-003A 10 kw continuous and 15 KW surge, and is powered by a 4 cylinder Onan DJC air cooled diesel. It can produce 208/120 three phase, 120 single phase, and 120/240 single phase. It runs great but still has some gunk in the injectors (notice how one bank of cylinders is getting fuel dumped in it) and the governor kicks in a little slow. Pretty good for a piece of equipment that has sat for over 7 years.

PostHeaderIcon Off the Grid power-alternative to wind or solar power

I have built a “off the Grid” home generator using a 1950’s Coventry Victor one cylinder diesel generator, I can run this on diesel or a diesel and used cooking oil mixture and have it attached to a large battery via a 40amp car alternator which supplies my garden lighting and via an inverter for 600 watts of home power and lighting. The waste heat is used to keep my garage warm as well. All parts recycled from EBay or kind donations of “junk”
